I missed the Oprah show earlier today at its normal time but fortunately it plays a second time in the wee hours of the morning. I do not know if I will watch the whole thing though. I am feeling rather sensitive today (any sad things on television are making me cry rivers). I have seen the first few minutes so far and I am glad that Oprah is the one they are talking to, because I think she can be more compassionate than some other interviewers. I do think that this poor kid is going through an awful lot in the public eye. Even though his parents are saying they are not pushing him to tell them anything, and they are not allowing anyone to ask particulars; I think maybe they could have kept him out of the public eye more.
I may be wrong though because maybe Shaun wanted to go along for the interview with Oprah. He looked more comfortable when they were in the more private setting, rather than when he was in the studio. At least she did not put him on the stage, but in the audience with his sisters.
I have read so many other people writing about the amazement, the horror, the disbelief, the relief. So many emotions have been experienced by the families, the communities, and the nation. Even the world has heard about this amazing set of circumstances.
The Owenbys were on the show too. I admire them for making the decision not to put Ben on camera.
It is amazing all the little details that keep being revealed. The Hornbecks talked about the fact that some of the kids living near Shaun during this ordeal, asked him at one time if he was Shaun Hornbeck instead of Shaun Devlin. Of course, out of fear, Shaun denied it. The Hornbecks suggested to the public that if someone has the a hunch to tell the police, it does not matter if it is right, just so long as it is not left untold.
Oprah also had a former FBI profiler on too to explain some of the fear and trauma the boys went thru.
Okay I have watched enough. I guess like the rest of the world I am a bit curious, but my curiosity was more for how Oprah was going to handle the interview. I do admire her demeanor toward the families and the boys especially, but I think just like everyone else in the media she was a bit quick to jump on this whole thing. I guess it can't happen both ways, a nice person like Oprah interview them first and all the others stand in line or they give no interviews at all and the public learns nothing of ways to be aware and safer.
I'm glad Oprah did interview him because SOMEONE was going to. Like you, I think she was the right person for the job. I'm glad his parents allowed the interview because there are so many families that they might potentially help with any information that could be given. It sure makes me think twice not to second guess myself. I mean if I'm at all suspicious, I need to contact someone instead of worrying that I'm over-reacting.

[this is good] I apologise that, I can help nothing. But it is assured, that you will find the correct decision. Do not despair.
